Opportunities and Challenges in Canada–China Trade Cooperation
As globalization continues to reshape the world economy, trade cooperation between Canada and China presents both major opportunities and challenges. With Canada’s rich natural resources and China’s large consumer market, bilateral trade has grown steadily, reaching nearly USD 100 billion in 2022.
Key trade sectors include energy, agriculture, machinery, and technology. Initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and potential Canada–China Free Trade Agreement negotiations could further strengthen economic ties and reduce trade barriers.
At the same time, political tensions, trade restrictions, and global economic uncertainty continue to affect bilateral relations and market stability.
Looking ahead, stronger communication, investment cooperation, and collaboration in innovation and sustainability will be essential for deepening Canada–China trade relations and creating long-term growth opportunities for both countries.
